Adrian Smith : Chronicles of Hate

Hello, today I share with you some pictures of « Chronicles of Hate » from Adrian Smith, this comic was translated in French this year and Adrian was in Paris in early June to meet his fans and dedicated his books. A great friend of mine gently bought one book for me, thank you Julien . Adrian S. nicely drew a card and dedicated my book.

It’s a graphic story where dialogues are useless, you jump from strip to strip, to discover the quest of a three legged mutated man in very dark heroic fantasy world. A Black and white comic really pleasant to read.

Some illustrations of Adrian from Slaves to Darkness, these illustrations was my first step to understanding the Chaos concept. In early 90’s I was too young to translate the English texts, so,  I built my own definition of Chaos with the Adrian illustrations. So much good memories.

    1. Adrian Smith is up there with Simon Bisley in how I've built my graphic understanding of these fantasy worlds.

    3. Lucky you!

Easily my favourite GW artist. Those Lost and Damned illustrations coloured the Chaos world for my young teenaged mind and his Squats were amazing too.

    5. And I shall be the first to say what many men think but few dare to say aloud: Smith produces rubbish - compared to what the man used to produce from the late 1980s to mid-1990s. Have you seen his Kryomek art from 1991-1994? Work of the gods, I say.

Same thing with the Blanche. Even Chalk has never out-gifted his own 1989 work for Heroquest. What on earth has happened to all of these masters of yesteryear? Once British fantasy art used to mean something, with imaginary that both looked aesthetically finished and had genuine visual depth to them. Spiky-vomit-rubbish is all I see these days from these guys.

As for you Nico, I absolutely love your work here and want to commend you for that. This blog is one of the best fantasy hobby blogs around and your earlier post on French AGMAT was pure gold.

    6. Hi Anonyme! I know, the evolution of an artist is sometimes hard to accept, particulary after 30 years of works... Concerning the British fantasy artists (illustrators, miniatures painters, scenarists,...) I keep in mind theirs old works as references and synonym of good moments as teenager dreaming on his bed the mind full of fantasy/hobby stories. In french we said "c'est ma madeleine" in reference of "La madeleine de Proust". Thank you for your comment, this blog stay and wil stay purely dedicated to the spirit of our Fantasy Masters of the 80's! Bye Nico
