working a few weeks, I present you three units which compose the heart of my
Dwarf army. Other Landsknecht units will arrive in the next few weeks
(halberdier, crossbowmen, artillery…).
project, I chose to make no blending of colors and work in groups of 10 dwarfs to accelerate the process of paintings. I hope
to realize this army of 170 miniatures in approximately 7 months.
good way to go fast is to apply the famous Foundry Miniatures method of painting
based on the work with 3 colors. I discovered this method by buying the book Painting
and Modelling guide Master Class in 2013 at the Foundry stand at CRISIS Antwerp
( at a very moderate price, thank you Marcus!).
this method with 4 colors and with the Citadel paints by economic choice. I
planned to make a tutorial to show you this very simple but very effective
To obtain a
coherent result, I limited myself to only 3 main colors (yellow, red, blue)
besides the white and the black. For an army of Landsknecht, it is important to
paint clothes by juxtaposing strips of different colors. In my case, I found
that the final result was not sufficient, I decided to paint also certain poles
of pikes in this way, it’s not very historic but very effective.
These strips on poles inspided me !
banners, no creation is necessary for this time because this period of History abounds
in magnificent banners, just print and paint. To solidify them and to give them
a flying shape, I positioned a fine metal leaf under the paper (the metal leaf
comes from a wine bottle).
of this project concerns the conversions. The Marauders Miniatures range
proposes a good base of Landsknecht but not enough to obtain a varied army. The
main characteristics of Landsknechts are their hats, their feathers and their
strips of colors. It’s exactly these elements that I added on certain figurines
to give them the good style. Conversions are relatively easy to realize and
very effective visually.
